Tenerife, Spain, 1979
An emerging Spanish artist, Julia Martin Gonzalez works with mixed media. Some of her two dimensional paintings and drawings are reminiscent of Rothko?s work, while other pieces use a variety of objects and materials to create protruding forms.
She attended the Escuela de Artes y Oficios Fernando Estevez, and has a degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad de La Laguna.
Gonzalez says of her work: The canvas itself begins to lose its initial function (as a support for paint) to take on multiple possibilities; with a hole, cut, or stitch, transforming itself into a receptacle for three- dimensional forms.
