Mezzotint

Mezzotint comes from the Italian word mezzotino which means half tint. In this intaglio process, the artist uses serrated tolls to roughen the surface of a copper or steel plate. The plate is then burnished to create the smooth, velvety tones characteristic of a mezzotint. To See How Artists Make Mezzotints, Please Click HERE to Visit the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) Website.
