Barlach, Ernst

Ernst Barlach
(Hamburgo, 1870- Rostock, 1938)

German painter and sculptor, also considered to be a principal figure in Expressionism.

This artist received his education at the School of Arts and Crafts, Hamburg, the Dresden Academy and the Academie Julian, Paris.

He is particularly remembered for his large sculptures depicting human figures and wearing flowing clothes, for example The Solitary One ( Kunsthalle, Hamburg ).
