Armitage, Kenneth

Kenneth Armitage
(Leeds, 1916)

British sculptor and printmaker and widely considered as one of the most prominent British sculptors of the 20th century.

Educated at the Slade School, he came into limelight after an exhibition at the Whitechapel Art Gallery, in London. His most familiar pieces are bronze sculptures characterized with spindly legs and chunk bodies, including the famous, People in a Wind ( Tate Gallery, London ).
