Therdkiat Wangwatcharakul Biography

Thailand, 1971 -

Thai artist Therdkiat Wangwarcharakul's unique FIGURATIVE works bring to life the constant struggle in an urban city.

Trained at the Silapakorn University, Therdkiat generally paints with oil on aluminum sheets. No objects are useless in the settings - leftovers from the middle class are being recycled and the stray dogs become devoted companions. The use of aluminum sheets as a medium, which is a material that is recycled by garbage collectors in the city, contributes to a kind of real-life experience to his paintings.

Therdkiat has participated in several exhibitions in Thailand, and also in Singapore (2001), Japan (2001), and the Netherlands (2002). He was awarded the Jurors' Choice Prize in the ASEAN Art Awards 2000 and won the second prize at the national art competition in Thailand in 2002.
