Pablo Picasso Artwork Details

Detailed Description

Edition: There was a total edition of 255 copies of these made. There were 56 de luxe copies of the book with additional suites of lithographs . Our lithograph is part of an additional suite. There were also 199 copies of the book made on Velin Arches paper. Cramer describes in detail the 5 various different papers which comprised the total edition. He mentions that there were 25 copies on pure rag paper with a signature watermark - the book itsewlf was signed both by the artist and author. Our paper the artists signature and is of undoubted authenticity and provenance. The lithographs made enclosed inside the book were all accompanied by texts (which can be seen illustrated in Cramer) which ours is not. We have in our possession the folder which accompanied the additional suite which is on stiffer paper entitled Recto : “Lithographies Picasso” in flowery script. We have also a copy of the justification de tirage which was signed by both Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau in pencil.

Note: When Picasso reached his 80th birthday Pierre Bertrand, who published Cocteau’s works, got together eleven of the poets writings which reflected his friendship with Picasso. Picasso then illustrated the work with 24 lithographs some of which are in a style similar to Cocteau’s drawings. Our lithographs come from an additional suite made to go with the deluxe edition of this book which was published in 1962.
