Norbert Bisky Biography

Leipzig, Germany (1970)

Established German painter Norbert Bisky is known in the art world for his frescos depicting adolescents. His paintings could almost be propaganda pieces, except that the colors that he uses create a kitsch that questions the perfection of images. It has also been said that Bisky's idealized young men are a critique against the mass market focus on young people as a consumer group.

Bisky emerged in 1998 as a talented student of German contemporary master Georg Baselitz, who is known for his upside-down paintings. Seven years later, Bisky is easily the most well-known figure in a group of rising German artists who have ushered in a new age of German painting centered in Berlin.
