Fran Bull Biography

Orange, New Jersey, 1938-

Established American artist Fran Bull works within the realm of PHOTOREALISM, using water reflections as the basis of her imagery. The result is a splendid symmetrical work, undominated by an axis, but enhanced by a sense of organization. The sharply realistic subject matter is contrasted with its carefully unfocused water rippled reflection. The subtle tonal changes, highlights and shadows, are remarkably sensitive to the light source, usually the sun.

Bull received a degree from Bennington College in Vermont in 1960. Her first solo show came in 1975, at the Louis K. Meisel Gallery and she achieved her first commercial success in New Zealand, where her works were first widely exhibited and appreciated.
