Long Beach, California
A restless and protean painter, Ed Moses has explored many styles throughout his five-decade career, from Abstract Expressionism to Minimalism and all points in between. In the process he has created a diverse body of predominantly abstract and non-objective art that has remained true to his personal trajectory while being consistently in touch with the times.
One shared characteristic of his works is that they have tended, in recent decades at least, to be produced without a brush - their luminous effects created using an arsenal of palette knives, squeegees, mops and masking tape. But Moses is not the kind of artist who is content to be restricted by formal conventions, and his work is bound together more strongly by its intrinsic sensuality and visual intelligence.
