Artist's Statement

After progressive movements (Calcutta Group, Bombay Progressive Group, Delhi Shilpichakra, Cholamandalam) in India there are no such kind of difference between Indian art and the rest of the world. As art is a global language so we have to response to the world art movements. In Europe, after minimalism, Modernism came to an end. But to response to Eurocentric modernism in India there is one kind of modernism evolved in India (mainly in Shantiniketan) we can call it “Contextual Modernism”. After that the large number of younger artists started drawing inspiration from global art movements. As we live in post-modern era, I am hypothecated to convey some response to the movement. I’ve tried to adopt new media and technology in my works. Narration is the soul of traditional Indian art, but in modernism “form” was given much importance than the narration, but after the evolution of “Baroda Narrative School” (Ghulam Muhammad Sheikh, Bhupen Khakkar and others) the narration regained it’s previous glory in contemporary art scenario. The narration, new media practice and technology is submerged in my works. Multiplicity, Informative, and simultaneity are the basic characteristics of my works. As an artist I want to show some sociopolitical aspects of life, but not in the prominent way of social activists.
