INFORMATION / COLLECTIONS / EXHIBITIONS

The Chrysler Museum of Art combines one of America's leading fine arts museums and two significant historic homes.

Founded in 1939, as the Norfolk Museum of Arts and Sciences, the Museum experienced considerable growth in 1971 when automobile heir and art collector Walter P. Chrysler, Jr. presented the museum with his art collection.

Comprising over 30,000 objects, the collection spans over 5000 years of world history. American and European paintings and sculpture from the middle ages to the present day form the core of the collection. The museum includes works by Monet, Degas, Renoir, Gauguin, Rodin, and Cezanne). The Museum also holds a major collections of glass (including works by Louis Comfort Tiffany), holdings in the decorative arts, and a growing collection of photography. The arts of the ancient world, Asia, Africa, and Pre-Colombian America are also well represented.
