The Asia Society was founded in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller 3rd to foster understanding between Asians and Americans. In addition to being the premier organization dedicated to the public affairs, arts and cultures of all of the diverse countries of Asia, the Society has one of the premier collections of Asian Art in the world. This collection includes masterworks from South, Southeast Asia, and East Asia, dating from 2000 B.C. to the 19th century, in various media--bronzes, paintings, ceramics, sculpture.
