Detailed Description

This work is a recognition of the CHIPKO movement in defense of trees. The name of the movement comes from the word HUG, because the villagers hugged the trees and prevented them from knocking them down. Supporters of the Chipko movement, mainly women from villages, have prevented the cutting down of trees in several regions and influenced India's natural resources policy. Dhoom Singh Negi, Bachni Devi and many other women of the town, were the first to save trees by hugging them. The success of the Chipko movement prevented thousands of trees from being felled.
