In her photographic work over the last fifteen years, Patricia Townsend has used techniques of montage to create surreal or dreamlike images. Her work explores issues of gender and identity, sexuality, conscious and unconscious, looking, seeing and being seen. As Patricia creates most of her black and white montages individually in the darkroom, prints of the same image each differ slightly from one another.
In her most recent series of images, "Heavenly Bodies", Patricia has moved into color photography and has used digital techniques of montage, whilst retaining the mysterious and surreal quality, characteristic of her earlier work.
Patricia currently lives and works in London. She is represented by IRIS International Centre for Women in Photography.
