Edition: 3000 unnumbered copies Size: 160 x 220 mms Reference: Bloch 825, Cramer 76, Mourlot 287 Note: This was published to illustrate “La Guerre et la Paix” by Leon Tolstoi, published by Andre Sauret, Monte Carlo. It was a work in 3 volumes with this lithograph by Picasso serving as a frontispiece. The title of the book was rich in associations for Picasso who, in 1952, had painted “La Guerre et la Paix for the vault of the chapel at Vallauris. Picasso was inspired by a photograph of Tolstoi taken in 1960 which shows the Novelist sitting with legs crossed beside a table on which rests his Top Hat.
