The photograph depicts a jolly scene outside the offices of Jean Rostand where the four men share a joke. The press cutting reads : “Le livre le plus chere de tous les temps - 100 millions - presente en premier mondial a Paris: L’exemplaire unique de L’Apocalypse edite par l’editeur Joseph Foret au prix de 100 millions d’anciens francs et illustre par sept grands peintres (Buffet, Dali, Fini, Foujita, Mathieu, Trenois, Zadkine) conportant des textes de Cocteau, Daniel-Rops, Giono, Jean Rostand etc. et ecrit en 2 ans de travail sur 200 parchemenins entiers a ete montre aujourd-hui pour la premier fois, au Musee d’Art Moderne. Sa couverture comporte 150 kilos de bronze, il ya 83,000 lettres calligraphiees, 98 pierres precieusses - par ces chiffres on peut se rendre compte de l’effort sans precedent prodigue pour cet ouvrage. Paris 14/3/71” This relates to the famous book “The Apocalypse of St John published by Joseph Foret in 1961. The book weighed 463 Lbs and was entirely hand written on parchment with additional writings by several authors including Cocteau. Foujita was one of the artists whose works illustrated this colossal project. Joseph Foret was considered one of the greatest publishers of Livres d’artise and is best known for the work “Devine Comedy” illustrated by Salvador Dali.
