An established contemporary Cambodian artist, Thu Sophannarith primarily paints in an IMPRESSIONIST style and depicts traditional Khmer subjects.

Trained at the Fine Arts School in Phnom Penh, Sophannarith is now one of the most well known Cambodian oil painters, whose reputation has surged in the 1990s, after the end of Khmer Rouge period which discouraged art education and training.

His works mostly focus on traditional Khmer subjects and nature which he executes with the rapid strokes of a palette knife and a thick layer of paint. He has exhibited frequently in Cambodia and also in Germany (2003), China (2004) and Vietnam (2004).
