Peter Max Biography

Berlin, 1937-

German-born American artist, Peter Max is best known for his colourful images and multidisciplinary activity.

Born in Berlin, Peter lived in China, as a child, until his family moved to the U.S.

Trained at the Art Students League, Pratt Institute, and the School of Visual Arts, all in New York, Peter opened a design studio and created campaigns for fashion companies and designs for books and posters, amongst others. After closing his studio in 1964, Peter began creating his characteristic paintings and graphic prints.

Peter has exhibited in over 40 international museums and over 50 galleries, worldwide. His artworks can be found in the permanent collections of leading museums, including MOMA, New York.
