Kay Bojesen Biography

Kay Bojesen was born August 15th, 1886 and died August 28th, 1958. He was educated as a merchant and silver smith from 1906 to 1910. He worked as s silversmith in Paris and Copenhagan and in 1913 opened his own company in Nybrogade, Copenhagen. He began creating, what he is now most well known for, wooden toys in 1922. He stuck with typical Danish skonvirke style and also funcionalistic style. In 1930 he began working for Bing & Grondahl as an artistic leader, and opened his own shop in 1932 not just for silver but also with a woodturning workshop. His Grand Prix cutlery won its first prize in Milan in 1951. His famous teak and limba wood monkey has a permanent place as a mascot for wildlife programs on Danish television since 1951.
