An established American artist, Dorothea Tanning works as a painter, printmaker, sculptor, and writer. Her work has evolved from an earlier surrealism to experimentation with a variety of styles.

She studied art in Chicago, and was the fourth wife of German painter Max Ernst. Her work can be found in private and public collections around the world.
