Twelve Woman Artists at the Prado Museum

Twelve Woman Artists at the Prado Museum

The exhibition 'Doce artistas en el Museo del Prado' ("Twelve Artists at the Prado Museum"), (until July 15th, 2007) at the Prado Museum, Madrid, Spain, show the creative work of Spanish woman artists Ouka Leele, Blanca Muñoz, Carmen Laffón, Cristina Iglesias, Eva Lootz, Soledad Sevilla, Isabel Baquedano, Carmen Calvo, Naia del Castillo, Cristina García Rodero, Isabel Quintanilla y Susana Solano, as these artists create a dialogue with master artists.

In 1991, the doors of the Prado were opened to twelve contemporary artists: Alfaro, Arroyo, Barceló, Chillida, Gaya, Gordillo, Perez Villalta, Ràfols Casamada, Rivera, Rueda, Saura y Torner, and now the initiative is being repeated, but just for women.

The exhibition, organized by the Friends of The Prado Foundation, is curated by Francisco Calvo Serraller, and shows 24 artworks (two per artist), whose source of inspiration is the Museum's permanent collection. The 24 artworks include lithographs, etchings, photographs and serigraphs, among others. These pieces give the works in the Prado new importance and shows how the work of the old master artists influences the work of the contemporary generation.
