Original Art: How to Light Your Artworks

How to Light Your Artworks

It's very important that the type of light that you choose illuminates the entire surface of the artwork in a uniform manner. Halogen lamps are generally not recommended, as they often cause shiny spots and reflections that interfere with our appreciation of the artwork. Lighting experts recommend that light bulbs used not be of very high wattage.

Ideally the focal point of the light should be approximately 8-10 inches from the edge of the frame.

If the artwork has a textured surface, illuminating it straight-on will make it look flatter than it is. It's better to position the light to the sides or from above.
