Antonio Berni Biography

Santa Fe, Argentina, 1905 ? New York, USA, 1981

An established Argentine artist, Antonio Berni worked as a painter, illustrator and engraver.

He studied painting at the Centre Catala in Rosario, Argentina, and travelled to Madrid and Paris on an art scholarship. In Paris he came into contact with the work of Andre Breton, Henri Lefebvre, de Chirico, and Rene Magritte, and began to work in a surrealist style.

In the late 70?s he moved to New York. The work he did there before his death became increasingly spiritual and reflective.
