Detailed Description

Maritime Series is a group of preliminary studies numbered from roman numeral I to XLVII representing the first stage of visual art project titled: “Chile: A Maritime Vision”. Understanding the complexity of the new world from the moment the first gold routes were established during the reign of Charles V, a rich fusion of cultures was created amongst an emancipating Spanish Monarchy and a culturally and geographically diverse pre Hispanic heritage. Conceiving the administration of land domains which extended during colonial period from the Grand Canyon all the way down to Tierra del Fuego required a key aspect in terms of transportation and the establishment of reliable commercial routes across the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. With the discovery of a pathway to the western pacific rim of the Spanish Empire through the straight of Magellan, a mayor docking port developed in Valparaíso, Chile, specially during the 18th and 19th century.
