Detailed Description

Published by : Borstahusens Konstforenng, Sweden, 1973
Note: The work shows a Spanish Grandee of the 16th century facing wearing a lace collar. This was made after a Linocut by Picasso to advertise a show in Sweden which was held in 1973. There was a poster made to promote the show and our work is an “avant les lettres” edition of this poster on better paper. The work was not lithographed by Picasso but by Henri Descamps who was the Masterprinter at Mourlot Freres who was assigned to work with Picasso on all the prints made by Mourlot. The work was overseen by Picasso who authorised his printed signature to be put on it. The Original Linocut, for which this is the prototype is found in the Catalogue Raionee by Bloch number 1148. Picasso was a great admirer of El Geco and made several interpretations of his work of which this is one. Literature: Christopher Czwiklizer (Catalogue Raisonee of posters) 448
Printed by: Mourlot Freres, Paris, France
