1996 - 2011 Chef by profession for 15 years. I studied at the School of Hotel Management Community of Madrid. I have worked in some of the best restaurants and luxury hotels as a cook and chef
creating my own company in 2007 Pablo Roig - Caterer of the author.
2000 - 2012 self and multidisciplinary visual artist. I chose not to study at schools of art to preserve my freedom as an artist and not pigeonhole my work in purely academic lines. My work is ongoing research on techniques, materials, forms and instruments of implementation.
Discover and study the two artistic movements that have influenced me most: American abstract expressionism and the material informalism although Arte Povera, brut, constructivism, neo, conceptual and minimalist.
Mainly influenced by artists like Kandinsky, Pollock, Franz Kline, De Kooning and Tapies Barceló between informalists. This changed my view to tackling a work and begin to create many of them through the subconscious, an automated and free or action painting.
My goal is not stagnant in one line art and therefore be multidisciplinary because I find it more rewarding to expand boundaries,
languages and disciplines. In recent years my work has focused on the material informalism and geometric abstraction, mainly.
Artist's Statement
I face the work sometimes with the default and comprehensive study of an idea, and others from nothing at all, unleashing the subconscious. In the development of work flows and communication between the work I do. Sometimes the end result is exactly that of the original idea, and others however, what began as a firm idea is taking other paths of automaticity truly exciting.
My works matéricas are faster and gestural in its execution, and the geometric involve a slow and studied, and sometimes mechanical.
Mood and other internal and external factors play an important role in creating the work, to find a balance line in a positive or negative, or what others call a state of inspiration.
Sometimes my year career as a chef do think like this and I use kitchen utensils (rods, strainers, pastry sleeves,
mixers, etc.) and have even worked in construction with gourmet items coming to deal with the resulting problems of the state of putrefaction. Ongoing research on media, techniques and materials, spend time making countless trial and error testing. In these trials arise product ideas and results of physical indeterminism.
Create for me a necessity of expression which I throw my thoughts and reflections on the world we live and the world we are creating. I think art has been, is and should be a key tool to stimulate social awareness.
