Good book for beginning oil painting,

I just started to oil paint although I am an artist this is a new medium for me. I found the book very helpful and even carried it with me when I went to paint outside (plein air). It has a lot of helpful tips and gave me ideas on how to look at my paintings to improve them. She covers equipment and how to get started. Also how to paint different things in a landscape such as trees, buildings and the sky. She also discusses color. I recommend it to every artist who wants to improve their oil painting or a newcomer getting started. Great reference book to have around.

That's the left handed way of saying it is really good! It's a handy size, 6x9", in a ring binder. Naturally lays open for easy reference and fits in your bag or backpack. From basic stuff to advanced.
Excellent ! Appreciate it!,

If you are a painter, this book is for you. If you are a Plein Air painter, this book is for you.
This easy-to-read book is full of questions most painters ask with intelligent answers by who I consider a landscape painter at the top of her game, my dear friend Elizabeth Tolley. She surrounds herself with other respected painters in the field and they share tons of information. This book is everything you need to know to paint your next best landscape. Her work and accomplishments are stunning and enviable. I could go on and on about her excellent painting examples, but I would sound like a groupie! I can assure you that you have asked all the questions presented in this book, but received conflicting answers. Elizabeth Tolley's book is so concise, direct, full of information and is probably the only book you will ever need on the subject. Follow her suggestions. You will paint better and with more confidence.
A nice paced book with helpful information,

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love spiral bound art books. They always get the first star from me automatically.
This book did not need a free star however; it is a well thought out work with much useful information in a tight, neat package. I find it a pleasure to go back to and refresh my memory on various points.
The information on color appealed to me greatly. The transparent oil pigments information was very helpful and has me researching further. The color was good to very good throughout the book. The sequence that information is presented is very good. It is not long winded but rather to the point. It moves along to my satisfaction.
I would like to see more art related books using this format. I'd particularly like to see one dedicated to color, color mixing and the exact pigments or products used to do it. A handbook of this nature would be invaluable to students and teachers alike.
I will recommend this book to artists at all levels of accomplishment. It is a keeper.
