Emerging American artist Megan Lynch explores the processes of collage, fiber and printmaking in a style that is both contemporary and nostalgic.
Lynch received a BFA with an emphasis in fiber from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2002. She has exhibited extensively throughout the Midwestern United States and has also exhibited internationally. Lynch is a prolific artist who not only works in several mediums, but who also works as a print and web designer under the name Paperbirdie Design.
Her work has appeared in publications such as REVIEW, KC Magazine, and Discover Mid-America in addition to several publications produced by the Kansas City Artists Coalition.
Lynch’s work explores themes of memory, childhood and the idea of home. Through processes of collage, drawing, printmaking and stitching, she pieces together scraps of personal histories and fiction to construct new and unlikely narratives. Lynch uses a variety of found materials from buttons and typewriter keys to packaging, wrapping paper, maps, and candy pigment. Incorporating design, graffiti, patterns, and domestic processes, each artwork is layered and manipulated to achieve an intimate and whimsical composition.
