Editorial Reviews
This book is a hands-on guide to the entire process of making logos and fonts and even icons, all of which, essentially, start with the ability to draw letterforms. The intent of the book, in fact, is to enable the user to end reliance on "OPF" (other people's fonts) and learn to draw your own custom logos, fonts and lettering! There are many books on the market that simply display collections of logos and fonts, and that give the history of logos and fonts. But Logo, Font & Lettering Bible is unique in that it teaches you how to create logos and fonts from scratch using traditional tools as well as the computer programs Adobe Illustrator and Fontographer (plus a bit about FontLab). The book provides all the traditional rules and tips about letter formation relating to proportion, shaping, balance, spacing, composition and actually teaches five different methods of drawing letters on computer using bezier curves. There has never been a book like this one that goes into so much detail about drawing letters and takes such a fun and irreverent approach while doing so. The book is also full of inspiration and analysis of tons of great examples of vintage and current lettering from old manuscripts to graffiti.
Logo, Font & Lettering Bible also shows you how to create fancy drop shadows and other type effects. And finally, the last section provides straight talk on the business of being a logo and font designer, from advertising your work and pricing to dealing with difficult clients (aren't they all?).
This book has been almost unanimously acclaimed by professional letterers, logo designers and font creators, both young and old. It is currently in use as a text in many typography programs and several Design college educators have stated it is one of the few texts that "students are actually happy about having to purchase."

Aptly named "Logo, Font & Lettering Bible", Mr. Cabarga's book is a veritable treasure trove. He touches the bases of graphic design, calligraphy, typography - even business - spending ample time on each. The book is
profusely illustrated, often with step-by-step sequences, and moves along at a lively pace. There's history, technology, technique and lots of real-world examples by the author and others. Whoever panned it here
must have confused it with another book, 'cause they don't hardy come better than this!
WOW! Where's this book been all my life - or at least since I got a computer?,

Thirty-five years ago at the Ontario College of Art I was blessed with a really terrific typography teacher named Ken Rodmell, a man who was knowledgeable, creative, succinct, and funny as hell, and I gotta say that Cabarga's book is like a deja-vue on steroids! Beyond its critical intrinsic value as a learning tool, it's also an absolute Aladdin's cave of wonders, historical and contemporary. Like most older artists settling into the digital age I've downsized my hardcopy library, but this one's categorically a keeper - at least til I wear out the binding from use, eh?
AWSOME!,

This book is incredible. It should sit on every art directors desk.
Equally informative to beginner, and intermediate graphic designers as well.
Everyone will get something from this book. If your into type, color study, logo design,
font creation or lettering, you will find yourself spending all of your free time reading it.
The author includes "exercises" at the end of each chapter which are a breath of fresh air compared to typical
tutorials. A totally original approach to teaching in a "non-accusatory" manor as most design teachers hit you
with thier laws and priciples. This has a very positive outlook with countless tips, and history behind it.
The "Logo Font and Lettering Bible", is like having a private lesson with Leslie Cabarga himself. Who
obviously took great care in how we, the readers, will interperate his material.
This one is a gem!

I've worked with computer graphics in the printing industry for the past 15 years and now I work in the sign and retail decor business. I've never found as good a resource as this book. This book is the most comprehensive volume on fonts and logos anywhere.
I recently had a question to ask the author and he emailed me back in less than a day. In addition he also offered me a free font to write this review. Awesome!
