Juan Alcalde

Madrid, Spain, 1918

Well established and respected Spanish FIGURATIVE painter and printmaker, living and working in Madrid.

Trained in Madrid at the Fine Arts Society, The Museum of Artistic Reproductions and, later, and San Fernando Academy of Fine Art.

Alcalde´s figurative paintings and prints are informed by his experiences of Civil War in Spain, refugee camps in France and the splendour and modernity of Paris and New York from the mid twentieth century onwards.

Alcalde held his first EXHIBITION in 1940 and has since exhibited throughout Europe and the United States. His work was selected to represent Spanish contemporary art in exhibitions in New York, Paris and Caracas, among others.
