Javier Alonso is an emerging artist from Montevideo who works in the figurative style. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts and he specializes in engraving, ceramics, drawing, and painting. He was the co- founder of the group "ceramica del carrito" in Montevideo and also in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Until 1972 he began to participate in painting, ceramic, and engraving exhibitions in: Uruguay, Argentina, Spain, the United States, France, Holland, and Switzerland.
From 1987 until 2006 he was a general professor of the Studio of Free Aesthetic Pedagogical Orientation, or IENBA, (Institute of the National School of Fine Arts) and since 1999 he has been chosen by the members of IENBA to take the position of director of the Institute, which he still occupies today. During the years of 2004-2006 he has developed various editions with the group "el carrito" of engravings and graphic works for various pictorial interventions.
The artist is interested especially in the handmade aspect of ceramics and the involvement of serious images. He utilizes his drawing, colors, light and material like tools so that the creation and his style can change under personal circumstances from a figurative, abstract style, to developing his work in an aesthetic closer to expressionism or symbolism.
