Detailed Description

Edition: Bearing a cloth label on the verso lower right with the printed text “This rug designed by H.Matisse and named Mimosa by him, has been woven by Alexander Smith in a limited edition of 500 of which this is number 225”. Note: Produced after a cut-paper collage designed by the artist in 1949 with revisions in 1951. Mimosa was Matisse’s first and only pattern specifically designed to be made into a carpet. This was the only textile authorised by Matisse in his lifetime. Condition: Generally in good condition with blemish on pile of rug and wrinkling to the label verso Size: 36" x 58".
