Heather Tamplin Biography

My earliest memory is of falling, I had unhooked one side of my pram harness and dangled with my head inches from flagstones. My most embarrassing moment was being caught shoplifting a bracelet from Woolworth's when I was 12. I wish it had been a more expensive item from a decent jewellers. My only regret is not taking more chances in life. My biggest fear is of water, I have almost drowned twice.

I was a full member of the Free Painters & Sculptors for over 20 years exhibiting with them nationally. In New York at the dfn gallery Broadway as part of NYAD 2000, in London at the Barbican, Mall Galleries and the Loggia Gallery. In Norfolk, Norwich at the Forum and the 18/21 Gallery and Ethika Gallery in 2010, the Swan House and Upstairs Gallery in Beccles

Artist's Statement

I am compelled to create through a wide mix of triggers; a sentence teased from a conversation at a festival, a colour seen on an advertising hoarding, a phrase read in a book, a shape traced in wet sand by a child, morphing cloudscapes, yesterdays left over paint roughly brushed onto a canvas, this world. I work in layers of colour built up using mostly Golden acrylic paints, usually finished with a final couple of layers of oil paint glazes or scumbles to give additional richness and depth to the work. My work is drawn from diverse visual traditions including folk art and commercial graphic design. Personal references and opinions inevitably make their way into my work.
