Hans Varela Biography

La Havana, Cuba, 1967 -

Established Cuban-born, Portugal-based contemporary sculptor, Hans Varela works in a FIGURATIVE style.

Hans held his debut exhibition in the 1980s and was the founder of Jose Fowler Group of Sculptors, in Cuba. His initial work was made at the workshops of artists, Eduardo Llinz and Jose Duvergel, two of the most important Cuban sculptors, in the 2nd half of the 20th century.

He has also served as the President of the division of sculptors at the ACAA (Asociacion Cubana de Artesanos Artistas).

Critically acclaimed in Portugal, Hans Varela's work has been shown in over 35 collective exhibitions, 15 solo exhibitions and various international events.
