Vito Acconci.

American artist and recognized as one of the leading exponents of Body Art.

Body art is a means of expression, which gained popularity in the 1960s and 1970s, whereby the artist used his or her own body as the primary medium. Acconci gained tremendous popularity with such performances, including his ‘ Rubbing Piece ‘ (1970), where he sat at a restaurant and rubbed his left forearm with his right hand until it swelled.
