Elena Abril Biography

Madrid, 1978

Spanish painter. In certain pieces the artist is very close to figurative art without depreciating abstract art. Elena Abril represents universal daily life valuably and with great expression. Within certain instances, there is a total or partial elimination of light with shadows passing through them when necessary.

She has degrees in Graphic Design as well as Psychiatric Nursing. Elena Abril has also fulfilled works for the sculptor Evelyn Hellenschdmit (Illustration Catalog '98).

In 1999 she moved to London where she works with videogames in Castilian like Final Fantasy IX©. After returning to Madrid, she worked with the Dirección Editorial with one of the producers of formatted television, Sibloc.com. Lastly, in Spain and the United Kingdom she has published short stories and opinion articles, as well as complete comic scripts and illustrations for fanzines.

"My search of spontaneous beauty, of other worlds and other faces arise during times of intangible space in dreams. I rescue fragments of life and dreams and I mold them into a possibility of beauty by way of visual stories. In others I leave the fragments to chance on the canvas. My intention is not to disdain any one style, color, or point of view. My visual memory at times brings me the monsters of Goya, the colors of Matisse, the expressionists' brushstrokes, the effect of romance, of a postimpressionist world or of the narratives in a comic. But all of that is memory and chance electing little pieces of themselves to the canvas; my painting knows myself more than I do."
