David Armitage Biography

Tasmania, Australia, 1943.

Established ABSTRACT artist.

David was born in Tasmania in 1943 and has lived in both Mainland, Australia and NewZealand. Since 1973, he has been living and working in the UK.

Writing about his work, Armitage states: 'The best simile for my work is music, where everything comes from sounds -it does not come from itself- it is what it is. And even though painting cannot remove its intrinsic influences and themes, it is, from beginning to end, just limits. The inter-relation of limits, colour and space, facts with genuine sentiments, awaits a genuine response for painting as an object which can give true and durable pleasure".

Education

He was educated at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
