Butterfields Auctioneers, was founded in 1865 and now forms part of eBay, the online world’s aggregator of garage sales. The modern-day auction house was a merger between the old Butterfields and the Illinois-based Dunnings, in 1998. Today, Butterfiield is probably the largest auction house in the western U.S.
The Auction house offers full-service galleries in San Francisco and Los Angeles – and a regional office in Chicago. Its headquarters are located in the heart San Francisco’s venerable design-center district.
