DESCRIPTION / HISTORY:

Italian auctioneer, Finarte Casa d'Aste was founded in 1959 by the banker Gian Marco Manusardi.

Its first auction included the Estorick collection: the paintings covered the entire spectrum from Modern to Contemporary European art, from Picasso to El Lissitsky, from Kandinsky to Morandi. In 1962, the first auction of Old Master Paintings was organized and in November, the company organized a second auction of Modern Art, in co-operation with the auctioneer Ketterer from Stuttgart.

Its activity soon extended to other collecting areas: old furniture, 19th century paintings, silver, jewellery, carpets, numismatics, majolica and chinaware, Liberty and Déco objects.

In 1972, the company opened an office in Rome, first at Palazzo Hercolani del Drago alle Quattro Fontane, later in Via Margutta. In 1981, another office was established in Via Manzoni in Milan. In the late 1960's, Finarte conducted an average of 15 auctions annually, in the 70's the number increased to 30, and by 1990, the number had reached 55.

In 1995, Finarte España was created as a joint venture between Finarte Casa d'Aste and Afinsa, a local Spanish company.

Finarte España has been conducting auctions of paintings and decorative art since autumn 1995.
