Assumpció Mateu Biography

Gerona, Spain, 1952 -

An established Spanish artist, Assumpcio Mateu works with mixed media and photographic collage on paper.

She studied painting at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes Sant Jordi, and cinematography at the Centro de Estudios de la Imagen, both in Barcelona. She later worked as an art professor, receiving her Doctorate of Fine Arts from the Universidad Central de Barcelona, in 1988. Mateu has also edited two books: La Veu del Foc, written by Maria Merce Roca, and her monograph A.Mateu: La mirada del espai interior.

Her work has been exhibited and collected around the world, including throughout Europe, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and the United States.
