F.64, Group

The F.64 Group was an American group of photographers organized in 1932 by Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Willard Van Dyke, Imogen Cunningham, John Paul Edwards, Sonya Noskowiak and Henry Swift to promote "the true" photography. The F.64 Group put emphasis in "the pure" photography, in clear images, the most rigorous definition of detail and the maximum depth of field, emphasizing therefore the unique qualities of the photographic process. The meaning of the name of the group refers to the number f/64, the smaller opening of the diaphragm of a camera and the f stop that provides the maximum depth of field.
