Dry Plate Process

Dry Plate Process

After the Collodion process appeared, several other dry procedures including the dry plate process, were developed. In 1871, Dr. Richard Leach developed the first dry plate, but these were much slower than the humid plates and seemed to have few applications. In 1878, Charles Bennett invented a revolutionary dry plate with gelatin emulsion, for which it was not necessary to transport a portable laboratory since it did not require immediate revealing and in addition, the process was so fast that photographers began to use cameras without tripods.
