Ansel Adams
1902-1984
American photographer, best known for his images of the American landscapes and wilderness.
Trained as a pianist, Adams initially started taking photographs in 1927. His most well known works depict the nature and wilderness in California and New Mexico. An advocate of ‘pure photography’, Adams founded the Group f.64 with Edward Weston, Imogen Cunningham and Willard Van Dyke. He was also a key proponent in the development of the department of photography at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Adams published over 24 books on his work, prior to his death in 1984.
