Antony Micallef Biography

British artist Antony Micallef’s work critiques contemporary popular culture. Although a skilled portrait painter, his newer pieces are nothing if not eclectic, drawing on diverse influences such as the Old Masters, graffiti, fashion magazines and Japanese cartoons. Micallef works corporate logos, contemporary symbols and motifs into these beautiful yet dark commentaries on the vacuous nature of modern consumerist society.

Work such as the celebrated 21st Century Love have earned Micallef a reputation as on of the most interesting, fresh talents around, with collectors including Damien Hirst, Brad Pitt and Jude Law, with countless others clambering for much sought after offerings. Micallef has exhibited in London, Los Angeles, Milan and Bulgaria and has exhibited alongside Tracey Emin, Marc Quinn, Jamie Reid and Banksy.
