Asturias, Spain, 1967
An emerging Spanish artist, Ana Posada works as a ceramicist, sculptor, and painter. Her two dimensional pieces are created by painting on thin layers of clay that are later baked at extraordinarily high temperatures.
I use ceramics to paint, Posada says, because in this process all of the forces of nature interact in a real way: earth, water, and fire. The earth is the base on which I work and what I use to form the palette for the color. The air is the atmosphere that I use in the ceramic oven to tone the colors, varying the amount of oxygen throughout the firing. The fire is the element of power, giving both durability and fragility to my paintings.
She began her work with ceramics in 1990, and has since studied with a number of renowned artists.
